Self-care is about productivity

Take care of yourself and do more

Self-care is important. Self-care matters.

Take care of yourself and be more productive.

You want results.

When you’re focused on results you think about action and what you can do.

Nothing wrong with this.

But when you focus too much on action and neglect self-care, you take away your ability to be more productive.

Remember that removing anxiety is one of the key ways to make your brain more efficient. When you take away anxiety, your brain is better at achieving your goals.

Focus too much on “always doing” without taking care of yourself and you create anxiety.

And that’s bad.

Be productive. Be active. But don’t forget to take care of yourself.

“Process, not goals.”

Be process-oriented, not goal-oriented.

Don’t be so focused on goals that you forget the process. If you want goals that are sustainable, focus on a healthy process.

When you take time and prioritize self-care, you make yourself more able to achieve your goals in the long run.

We all know this, but it’s also one of the easiest things to forget.

Self-care is the first thing to go because it doesn’t produce immediate results. But people who make self-care a priority are more productive and get results that last.

Self-care doesn’t just mean going to the spa…or sitting around on the couch eating pretzels. It means that you deliberately do something to care for yourself and your health.

Take care of yourself, and you’ll be able to achieve more.

Here are a few reasons why self-care is important, and how it makes you achieve more in the long run.

When it comes to self-care, think about the mind, body, and soul:

Mind

Sleep - One of the best ways to keep your mind focused and free from anxiety is to get sleep. A lot of entrepreneurs like to brag about how little sleep they get, but this doesn’t work in the end.

Sleep not only makes you healthier, but it also improves focus and concentration. Sleep restores and preserves the mental energy you need to be productive.

Pursue your interests - have something that engages your mind outside of work. Whether it’s reading, writing, building something, or just learning about something that interests you.

If you want your mind to stay strong, you need to feed it regularly.

It literally doesn’t matter what. Interested in World War I? Every man needs a war to obsess over. Buy a book and get reading.

You’re really into birds? Download an app and start tracking the birds in your area.

The point is, it can be any random thing. As long as it engages your mind and keeps you interested.

Be creative - find some way to create. It doesn’t mean you have to be the next Van Gogh, but we all have the ability to create something.

Modern life wants you to consume. Be someone who produces.

Find a way to stretch your mental muscles. It’s a way to assert your identity and love yourself.

Write a song. Get into fashion. Figure out a way to fix something in your house. It can be literally anything as long as it involves your ideas and your effort.

And I can’t stress this enough - it doesn’t have to be something to sell or monetize, just do something. Find something you’re tempted to just “pay a guy” to do and…do it yourself.

Find your creativity in finding out how to do something.

Body

Eat well, stay hydrated, and exercise. Talking about physical health could take a book, but it’s obviously important to take care of your physical health. I know too many entrepreneurs who ignore the most obvious, and that’s their health.

There are a million different philosophies about diet and exercise, but find one that works for you. This is the main thing that people put off for tomorrow, but if you want to succeed, then stop putting it off - right now.

Discipline - And when it comes to health, discipline is important. Pick a process you can do regularly and stick with it. Day in and day out. When you fall, get back up and get started again. Don’t let goals get in the way of the process.

Doctor - an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Commit to a yearly physical. If there’s a problem, get it checked out. Don’t put it off, especially out of fear. Keep your health manageable before it gets out of hand.

Soul

I’m not here to preach to you - but find a way to be in touch with yourself and your spiritual core.

Go to church. Pray. Meditate. Read your holy book.

When you take time for the spiritual, you’re able to be mindful and present in the now. It’s easy to get stressed about the future and the past. Center your attention on the present moment. That’s how you conquer anxiety.

Gratitude - just because you want to achieve more doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be grateful. A grateful attitude creates wealth.

Find concrete ways to be grateful for what you have. Take care of the things you own. If you’re driving a KIA but are working for the BMW - keep it washed and waxed. Be grateful for what you have now before you reach for more.

Be grateful for your relationships. Give to family and friends in your life. Practice abundance and it will come your way.

Relationships - and speaking of family and friends, take time for the people in your life. Your wife, your husband, your family and friends. Let them know in concrete ways that they matter.

Make space for relationships. Have dinner with the people that matter. Don’t put off that phone call. If there’s someone you’re thinking about that you haven’t talked to in a while, reach out.

Dedicate time and energy to the people in your life. “The love you take is equal to the love you make.” That’s a cliche but it’s true. So make even more than you take.

Be the person who everyone knows is there for you.

Self-care is crucial

Self-care isn’t a silly indulgence. It’s taking yourself seriously.

And guess what? It’s okay to take yourself seriously.

If you want to be productive, take your mental, physical, and spiritual health seriously.

Take a little bit of time, make a little bit of effort, do it regularly, and you’ll see incredible results.
