The ‘other’ 5 Minute Rule

Start your day with less stress.

 

This 5 minute rule is simple.

 

Here it is: If it takes 5 minutes (or less), do it now.

 

You always have something to do. Whether it’s things to do at home or at work. It could be responding to that email or putting up a new shower curtain that’s still sitting in the shopping bag. If you can do it in five minutes, go ahead and get it done.

 

That’s it. 

 

Like I said, it’s simple. 

 

What’s the big deal?

 

Why is it important? Because it makes you more productive. This truly is a “habit hack” because it doesn’t involve a big idea or a change of perspective. 

 

Just “do this → get more done.”

 

This works off what I call the Empty Brain is an Efficient Brain Principle. 

 

What does that mean?

 

Because your brain’s job is to make you happy, it avoids things that make you unhappy. This includes anxiety and negative emotions. Your brain wants to avoid these things, because they make you less happy and waste energy.

 

When you’re worried, you’re wasting energy that could be put to good use elsewhere. 

 

That’s why your brain is more efficient when you eliminate worry, anxiety, and negative emotions. And when your brain is more efficient, it’s better at creating your success. 

 

I call this the Empty Brain is an Efficient Brain Principle.

 

Now this doesn’t literally mean that your brain is empty. It just means that your brain is empty of those things that slow it down. So empty your brain of anxiety and unnecessary worry and get more done.

 

When your brain is weighed down with a bunch of tasks to do for the day, it causes unnecessary stress and anxiety. One of the best ways to get rid of these negative emotions is just to clear out any simple tasks that need to get done. 

 

It may not seem like much, but it will get rid of that low level anxiety and worry that slows your brain down. 

 

That’s the 5 minute rule. Start using it, and you’ll start getting more done.
